Eddie Joyce Gotell

It is with our heartfelt condolences-the administration and staff of Whipple and Allen Funeral Home Inc. announce the passing of Mrs. Eddie Joyce Gotell of Summerville South Carolina, formerly of Irwinton Georgia- Ms. Gotell transition to eternal rest on October 4, 2023 at Trident Medical Center of North Charleston South Carolina. Services will be held on Saturday October 14, 2023-11:00 am from Fountain Grove AME Church, 2137 Asbell Rd. Irwinton GA. (Mask are required), Public visitation will be held on Friday October 13, 2023 from 12:00 pm-6:00 pm.

On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, the good Lord called home Eddie Joyce Gotell. In finding her final rest, Joyce rejoins her husband of forty-nine years US Air Force CMSgt. Thomas Gotell, Jr. (retired). Eddie Joyce (Joyce, in her later years) was the eldest of two (2) children born to the late Eddie B and Marie Burney of Irwinton, Georgia. Her brother Robert V. Burney preceded her in the death. Joyce leaves as her legacy three children born of her union to Thomas: their daughter LaTisha Faulks, husband Andy Faulks, their son Thomas Faulks, all of Montgomery, Alabama, their son William Gotell, wife Julie Gotell, their daughter Ramona, their daughter Adrienne Hartwell, her son Lionel Hartwell, and her daughter Aria, all of Metropolitan Charleston, South Carolina. Joyce also leaves to celebrate her life family who have settled across the globe, classmates from Wilkinson County High School Class of 1972 in Irwinton, Georgia, and friends and colleagues spread from Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina to Misawa AB, Japan. Whether she was feeding the men and women of Nellis AFB, Nevada, catching shoplifters in North Charleston, South Carolina, or enjoying the children, grandchildren, and other members of her various communities, Joyce was a force of nature and sheer will. She will be missed by all who knew her.

May you always walk in sunshine and God around you flow, for the happiness you gave us, no one will ever know. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, a part of us went with you, the day God called you home. A million times we needed you, a million times we’ve cried. If love could only have saved you, you never would have left us. The Lord be with you and may you rest in peace.

Family will be receiving visitors from 3PM - 8PM Wednesday through Friday. If you are interested in dropping off food to be enjoyed by the family, you can drop off at the above address also. 

The family processional will lead out from Whipple & Allen Funeral Home 132 Manson St. Family members please be there at 9:30 am. Mrs. Gotell is survived by many loving family and friends.
